Posted December 13, 2005 14:16:48 by guest Each time I have been on top of the Galiber it has been freezing cold. The first time was while I was racing the 1998 Tour de France. It is in this year that Jan Ulrich lost the tour to Marco Pantani. We had to descend in the freezing rain/slush that became mere survival for many riders. (I suffered.....)
This year (2005) I was back on top of the Galiber on several ocassions and each time it was bone-chilling cold. To view the Tour de France this time we left valley floor when it was nearly 80 degrees in shorts and short sleeves. Only after the col d'Telegraph did the temperatures drop. When you reach the last 5-6kms of the Galiber and essentially reach into the clouds the temperatures drop drastically, it begins to drizzle rain and it is ALWAYS freezing up there!
